Pengaruh Rebusan Daun Salam (Syzygium Polyanthum) Terhadap Kadar Gula Darah Penderita Diabetes Melitus Tipe Ii
Abstract
Salam leaf (Syzygium polyanthum) is plant that contains flavonoids, tannins and euganol
which work improve insulin function. This study uses 10 grams salam leaves boiled with 200
ml water to 100 ml. The purpose this study to determine effect salam leaf stew on blood sugar
levels type II diabetes mellitus patients with the Quasy Experiment research design. The
research sample 30 respondents were taken by purposive sampling technique which divided
into 2 groups: 15 experimental respondents who given salam leaf decoction and 15 control
group respondents who not given salam leaf decoction. Both groups continued consume
diabetes medication. Measuring instruments used were observation sheets and glucometers
with measurements blood sugar levels pre test the first day and post test for 3 consecutive
days after consuming salam leaf decoction. The analysis used univariate analysis to describe
characteristics respondents and bivariate analysis using Wilcoxon test in both groups.
Homogeneity test results there no differences in the characteristics of the subjects of the two
groups. There was a significant difference in mean pre-test and post-test blood sugar levels in
the experimental group with a p value of 0.036, whereas in the control group no difference
was found with p value of 0.609. Conclusion there is the effect of salam leaf stew on fasting
blood sugar levels of patients with type II DM in the working area Pekanbaru Rejosari Health
Center. The results of this study are expected to be alternative treatment in controlling blood
sugar levels in patients with type II DM.
