Pengaruh Motivasi Berprestasi Dan Partisipasi Guru Dalam Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) Terhadap Kompetensi Guru Matematika SMP Di Kota Dumai Provinsi Riau
Teacher competence is something that must be considered and always
improved by every teacher. With high competence, a teacher will be able to score
qualified students and achieve national educational goals. Competency standards
contained in the Regulation of the Minister of National Education on academic
qualification standards and teacher competencies where the regulation states that
professional teachers must have 4 competencies of professional teachers, namely
pedagogic competencies, professional competencies, social competencies, and
personality competencies. Teacher competence is a set of knowledge, skills, and
behaviors that must be possessed, lived, and mastered by teachers as a
professional picture or not teachers that affect the success achieved by students
and in deciding things. Teachers who have high competence will certainly be
more professional in carrying out their duties compared to teachers with low
competence.
The results obtained by students who are guided by teachers who have
high competencies will be different from the acquisition of students who are
guided by teachers whose competence is low. Improving one's self-quality should
be a personal self-responsibility. Therefore, the effort to improve the quality of
teachers lies in the teacher himself. Therefore, there is a need for awareness of
teachers to continuously and continuously improve the knowledge and skills
needed to improve the quality of work as a professional teacher. In order for
teacher competence to be improved, there is a work environment and superiors
who can give attention and motivation so that teachers are always eager in
carrying out their duties and in improving their competence. Furthermore,
teachers must be maximal in participating in activities related to competency
development, such as training, workshops, and MGMP.
Based on the background, several problems can be formulated in this
study, namely as follows: 1) How is the competence of junior high school
mathematics teachers in Dumai city? 2) How is the motivation of the high school
mathematics teacher in Dumai? 3) How is the teacher's participation in MGMP
mathematics junior high school in Dumai? 4) Is there a significant effect of
achievement motivation to the competence of junior high school mathematics
teachers in Dumai city? 5) Is there a significant effect teacher participation in
MGMP on the competence of junior high school math teachers in Dumai city? 6)
Is there a significant effect of achievement motivation and teacher participation in
MGMP on the competence of junior high school mathematics teachers in Dumai
city?
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of independent variables
on the dependent variables, namely the Effect of Achievement Motivation and
Teacher Participation in The Subjects Teacher Conference (MGMP) on the
competence of junior high school mathematics teachers in Dumai City, Riau

Province. The research conducted is survey research using questionnaires as a
data collection instrument. Type of quantitative research with a population of 88
people. Sampling is done by total sampling,so that a sample of 88 people was
obtained. Data analysis techniques performed are descriptive statistical analysis
and inferential statistical analysis. Then the data obtained is analyzed by
regression analysis, regression coefficient, and determination coefficient. The
results shows that there is a positive effect of achievement motivation to the
competence of teachers by 26.3%. There is a positive effect teacher participation
on teacher competence by 22.5%, and there is a mutually variable effect of
achievement motivation and teacher participation on teacher competence of
30.8%. Thus the effect of variable of achievement motivation and teacher
participation on teacher competence is on moderate interpretation.
