“Pengaruh Energi Refining Dan Rasio Pcc:Gcc Terhadap Kekasaran Dan Indeks Tarik Kertas”
ABSTRACT
Print quality is affected by the quality of the paper used. To get the desired paper
quality, it is necessary to modify the fibers mechanically in the refining process
which is the heart in the paper-making process. In addition to refining, the use of
filler ratios will also affect the quality of the paper according to the desired paper
grade. Fillers are natural minerals added to cellulosic fibers to enhance the
properties of the paper sheets. There are two types of fillers used in the RAK
Business Unit, namely Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) and Precipitated
Calcium Carbonate (PCC). This study aims to determine the effect of refining
energy and PCC: GCC ratio on the roughness and tensile index of paper and to
determine the correlation between freeness, porosity and roughness and tensile
resistance of paper. In this final project, a research was conducted by varying the
refining energy using the PFI mill. The beaten pulp will be made into a handsheet
with the addition of additives and fillers with PCC: GCC ratios of 90:10 and
10:90. Based on the analysis that has been done, it is found that the refining
energy is inversely proportional to the freeness, porosity, roughness of the paper
and is directly proportional to the tensile resistance of the paper. Handsheets with
a higher GCC content tend to have higher porosity, roughness and tensile
resistance than paper with a higher PCC content. This is because the blocky
shape of the GCC particles allows it to better fill in the gaps in the fiber.
