ABSTRACT
Lightfastness is the level of the paper's ability to maintain the accuracy of color
strength, brightness and whiteness from time to time because it can cause fading
due to exposure to light. The purpose of this final project is to determine how the
rate of change of lightness, brightness, and fluorescence values in paper samples
tested for 90 days under the light exposure in the paper laboratory, so that the
results obtained from this final project are after being exposed to light In the
laboratory, the decrease in the value of the lightness parameter was less
significant, while the decrease in the value of the brightness and fluorescence
parameters was significant, where the higher the shade value on the paper, the
more decreased the brightness and fluorescence values on the paper. The highest
decrease of brightness and fluorescence was grade PR09085C and grade
MR020670 the lowest. The parameter values of lightness, brightness, and
fluorescence change over time due to exposure to light. Light exposure triggers
the production of free radicals, resulting in photooxidation of cellulose which can
damage the optical properties of the paper.
