Komunikasi Antar Pribadi Pengasuh Dengan Anak Terlantar Dalam Membentuk Sikap Kemandirian Di Upt Panti Sosial Pengasuh Anak (Pspa) Kota Pekanbaru
Neglected children in the Caregiver Social Institution (PSPA) are required to be
independent, where the orphanage is a public institution with a maximum age limit of 18 years.
After 18 years the child must leave the orphanage and be able to continue his life by facing the
wide world and being able to face the life that will come by itself. For that we need interpersonal
communication between caregivers and neglected children in forming an attitude of
independence. The role of parents as caregivers is very necessary so that children can
strengthen the behavior they have done. This study aims to determine how the nature of
openness, empathy, support, positive feelings, equality and barriers made by caregivers in
forming the independent attitude of neglected children at the Center for Social Care for Children
(PSPA) Pekanbaru City.
This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method with a symbolic interaction
approach. The subjects in this study consisted of six (6) informants who were selected through
purposive technique. While the research data was obtained through observation, interviews and
documentation. As for the technical data analysis used, namely data reduction, data presentation
and conclusions. To achieve the validity of the data, researchers used participation extension
and triangulation.
Based on the results of research, interpersonal communication between caregivers and
neglected children in forming an independent attitude at the UPT Social Care Center for Child
Care (PSPA) has been running quite well, but overall it still needs guidance and direction. Of
the five existing aspects, some have already been implemented, such as the openness of
caregivers with neglected children, by approaching neglected children such as asking for news,
asking about assignments, telling stories and even personal matters. As for the attitude of
empathy is done verbally and nonverbally, for the supportive attitude that is done by the
caregiver is to give praise and motivation and encouragement to abandoned children, so as to
make children more motivated and enthusiastic. The attitude of positive feelings in shaping the
child's independence is carried out by the caregiver by collaborating with the spiritual side so
that the child is educated in a more responsible and responsible attitude and attitude towards the
caregiver towards neglected children by not discriminating against foster children so that it
makes foster children feel more valued and cherished.
