Peranan Inyiak Upiak Palatiang Dalam Melestarikan Pencak Silat Di Nagari Gunung, Kota Padang Panjang (1975-2010)

Pencak silat is one of the cultures that exist in Indonesia, one of which is
pencak silat in Nagari Gunung, the city of Padang Panjang. This study aims (1) to
determine the life history of Inyiak Upiak Palatiang, (2) to determine the role of
Inyiak Upiak Palatiang in preserving pencak silat in Nagari Gunung, Padang Panjang
City, (3) to determine the characteristics of Inyiak Upiak Palatiang's martial arts. This
research uses the historical method, which is a set of systematic rules or principles to
collect historical sources effectively, evaluate them critically, and propose a synthesis
of the results achieved in written form. The steps in writing this history are: (1)
Heuristics is an activity to find sources to obtain data both orally and in writing. (2)
Verification is an activity in historical research that is carried out by examining,
correcting and assessing historical sources that have been collected. (3) Interpretation
is interpreting historical facts and assembling these facts into a coherent whole. (4)
Historiography is the final stage of historical research. The results of this study
indicate that the role of Inyiak Upiak Palatiang is to preserve the old martial arts in
Nagari Gunung, Padangpanjang City, the role of Inyiak Upiak Palatiang is clearly
seen by teaching the younger generation to keep learning silat, so that the existing
pencak silat in Minangkabau will not fade
