This study aims to collect information, complete data and analyze it related to the meaning of abstinence in the tradition of making the route Cerenti District, Kuantan Singingi District. The method in this research is to use analytical descriptive method, namely by analyzing and describing descriptively the data obtained in the study, decomposed in the form of words not numbers. The technique that the writer uses to collect the research data is the technique of recording, interviewing and documentation. The data sources in this study were 5 informants, starting from the lane builder, the lane handler, the lane member and the supporting community. Abstinence and prohibition in the tradition of making this line, starting from the banjar meeting until the completion of the construction. The meaning of abstinence is related to the consequences that arise from violations of abstinence according to the beliefs of the people of Cerenti Subdistrict, Kuantan Singingi Regency.
