Analisis Kemampuan Literasi Sains Biologi Dan Berpikir Kritis Siswa Kelas IX SMP Negeri Di Kecamatan Ujungbatu
Ujungbatu District is ranked first based on the average value of the national
examination of SMPN accredited A throughout Rokan Hulu Regency for the 2017/2018
academic year. Based on the observations at the SMPN, it is relatively rare for teachers
to provide exercises in the form of questions that can develop students' scientific literacy
and critical thinking skills. The learning process still tends to be one-way, with low
student responses to teacher and friend questions. Based on the results of the PISA
survey, Indonesia is ranked 64th out of 72 participating countries, Indonesia's scientific
literacy score is 403 in the low category. The low student achievement is because
students have not been trained in solving characteristic questions such as those on
PISA. If students' scientific literacy skills are low, it can be implied that their critical
thinking skills are also low. Indonesian education needs to prepare the nation's next
generation who are capable and skilled, especially students are expected to have
scientific literacy and critical thinking skills.
This study aims to analyze students' scientific literacy and critical thinking skills.
This research is descriptive research. The instrument used consists of test questions. The
test questions consist of two question formats, namely multiple choice questions to
measure scientific literacy skills and essay questions to measure critical thinking skills.
The number of questions tested were 20 questions for scientific literacy questions and 5
questions for critical thinking questions. The samples in this study were 121 grade IX
students at SMPN 1 Ujungbatu, 95 grade IX students at SMPN 2 Ujungbatu, and 61
grade IX students at SMPN 3 Ujungbatu who had completed the material on the Plant
and Animal Reproduction System.
The results showed that the biological science literacy ability of class IX
students of SMP Negeri in Ujungbatu District in the aspect of science content was 71.18
moderate category, science process aspect was 59.73 medium category, and science
context aspect was 76.54 moderate category. The overall average score is 69.15 in the
medium category. For the critical thinking skills of grade IX students of SMP Negeri in
Ujungbatu District, the critical thinking indicators obtained: (1) provide a simple
explanation, amounting to 54.37 very low categories; (2) building basic skills 34.42
very low category; (3) concluded 35.49 very low category; (4) provide further
explanation, amounting to 33.12 very low category; and (5) managing strategies and
tactics, which is 54.55 very low category. The overall average value is 43.99 in the very
low category.
