In this case, teaching materials or learning resources become one part of
the curriculum itself. Learning resources are sources of knowledge that have
various dimensions, namely learning resources are reviewed in a narrow sense to
a broad sense. Learning resources in a narrow sense are learning resources
included in books or printed materials, such as magazines, bulletins and so on,
and in a broad sense learning resources are in the form of learning tools that can
present messages and can be heard or seen., such as: radio, television and
hardware (Suhirman, 2018). In addition, according to Aswan in Jailani (2016)
explains that learning resources are everything that can be used as a place where
teaching materials are available or origin for someone's learning. Thus,
everything that is intentionally designed (by design) or that is available (by
utilization) that can be used either individually or together to create or help
students learn is called a learning resource.
The results of observations made by researchers with science teachers at
MTs Al-Munawwaroh Pekanbaru, the current learning resources that are still
used by teachers, in the form of guide books or study references are thick books
that are not practical to carry everywhere. The substance of the book also consists
of a long description. In addition to textbooks, students also receive LKS from the
school.
In addition, based on the results of interviews with participants, there are
limited learning resources, especially those used by teachers in helping students
to understand the concept of the material. The learning resources used by
teachers in the form of printed books and worksheets are considered by students
to be simple without any development and lots of material that makes it difficult
for students to remember them. This obstacle is also caused by the limited face-toface
time in class. So that students need new learning resources that are flexible
and easy to carry anywhere with the aim of making it easier to understand the
concepts of the material that has been taught in class.
Based on these problems, an alternative is needed to help students
understand the concept of material that has been taught by the teacher in class,
namely the Biology pocket book using the Acrostic Type Mnemonic technique for
SMP / MTs Class VIII Odd Semesters on Plant Structure Materials and Its Use in
Technology. This research consists of three stages, namely the analysis, design,
and development stages. The validation stage of the Biology Pocket Book Using
Acrostic Type Mnemonic Techniques involved 4 subjects (2 material experts and 2
media experts) as well as two education practitioners and 20 student responses in
two different schools, namely MTs Al-Munawwarah and SMP As -said Pekanbaru
and practicality test with 10 students at MTs Al-Munawwarah Pekanbaru. The
results of the validation by the validator using a validation sheet, as well as
student response questionnaires. The data analysis technique used is qualitative

data in descriptive form which describes the validation and the results of the
student responses produced.
The results showed that the pocket book based on acrostic Mnemonic type
for SMP/MTs class VIII on plant structure material and its use in the developed
technology scored 86.96% with a very feasible category without revision based on
the recapitulation of validation results by material expert validators and media
experts. , as well as educational practitioners.
A pocket book based on acrostic type mnemonics for SMP/MTs grade VIII on
plant structure and its use in technology received a very good response from
students. This can be seen from the average response of students from two schools
and added to the average value of the practicality test with a percentage of
88.56%. (very good).
Based on the results of the assessment by the validator, teacher and student
responses as well as practicality tests, the pocket book based on the acrostic type
Mnemonic for SMP/MTs class VIII on plant structure material and its use in
technology is very suitable for use in science learning activities for class VIII
SMP/MTs.
