Implementasi Model Pembelajaran Inkuiri Terbimbing (Guided Inquiry) Berbasis Literasi Sains Terhadap Peningkatan Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Dan Motivasi Belajar Siswa SMA Kelas XI
Education is a need that must be fulfilled in the process of life. Such rapid
changes in the world of education and the influence of globalization have
consequences in forming a young generation that is ready to face the challenges
of the 21st century, which is marked by the rapid development of science and
technology, especially information technology, therefore learning is needed that
can prepare students to be well educated in science and technology, able to think
critically, creatively and can argue correctly.
Referring to the complexity of the competencies that must be possessed by
students, in the 2013 curriculum there is a learning paradigm, namely from the
teaching paradigm to learning, meaning that previously learning was only
teacher centered (teacher centered learning), while currently learning is student
centered (student centered learning). In this case, the teacher is no longer the
only source of learning but rather leads as a facilitator in the learning process.
The learning process carried out by the teacher has not referred to the
demands of 21st century education which emphasizes scientific literacy and
requires students to think critically. Teachers' teaching methods have varied but
are still dominated by the lecture method (teacher centered learning), so that
students are less motivated in participating in learning. There are still students
who do not pay attention to the teacher when the teacher explains the lesson in
front of the class. In addition, the learning process carried out is still in the form
of providing theory in the form of rote memorization without requiring students to
find and understand the concepts of the material provided for themselves.
Teachers rarely use the level of complex problems that can support students'
critical thinking skills at school, so that students' critical thinking skills are still
lacking.
Based on the problems above, an alternative is needed to solve these
problems. One alternative solution is the selection of the right learning model that
fits the problems above. Therefore, a research was conducted on the
Implementation of the Guided Inquiry Learning Model Based on Science Literacy
on the Improvement of Critical Thinking Ability and Learning Motivation of Class
XI Students of SMAN 12 Pekanbaru.
xiv
This research type is a quasi-experimental research. The research
population was all students of class XI SMAN 12 Pekanbaru. The research sample
amounted to 71 students consisting of 35 students in class XI MIPA 3 and 36
students in class XI MIPA 4. Class XI MIPA 3 as the experimental class and class
XI MIPA 4 as the control class. Collecting data used a questionnaire and multiple
choice questions and reasoned essays. Validation used in the form of content
validation and empirical validation. The validation results showed that the
instrument was valid and reliable. The analytical technique used to examine the
effect of the implementation of the guided inquiry learning model based on
scientific literacy on improving critical thinking skills and learning motivation of
class XI students at SMAN 12 Pekanbaru was the analysis of the Paired Sample T
Test and Anova.
The results showed that the students' critical thinking skills before treatment
in the control class was 42.61 and the experimental class was 41.37 with a very
low category. After treatment, the average value of critical thinking ability in the
experimental class was 79.43 in the high category, higher than the control class
at 68.8 with the medium category. While the results of students' learning
motivation before treatment in the control class was 53.64 and the experimental
class was 54.40 in the low category. After treatment, the average value of critical
thinking ability in the experimental class was 76.60 in the high category, higher
than the control class 60.31 with the medium category. This shows that there is an
effect of the guided inquiry learning model based on scientific literacy on
improving critical thinking skills and learning motivation of class XI students at
SMAN 12 Pekanbaru, based on the average score of the experimental class which
is higher than the control class. Likewise, the results of Anova concluded that the
use of the guided inquiry learning model based on scientific literacy had a
significant effect on critical thinking skills and learning motivation with a
significance value of 0.000 < 0.005.
