This research is motivated by the low mathematical connection ability of
students. Students have difficulty in using the relationship between mathematical
concepts and with the other aspects such as mathematics with other fields of study
and mathematics with daily life. Based on the results of the 2019 National
Examination (UN 2019), have got information that students of SMPN 1 Kandis in
solving math problems based on mathematical connections were still low.
Especially problems related with geometry. The students could answer about
geometry only 41.85%. The average student could answer the mathematics still
below 50%. This indicated that students mathematical connection still on low
ability. Based on interviews conducted by researchers with teachers at schools,
was obtained information that many students have not been able to connected or
solved mathematical problems when connected with other aspects such as in daily
life and other disciplines. One of the low mathematical connection abilities have
influenced by the learning model applied by teachers in schools, so we need a
model which be able to facilitate students' mathematical abilities, especially
mathematical connection abilities. One of the learning models which could
improved mathematical connection skills was the Problem Based Learning (PBL)
model. In order to facilitate the ability of good mathematical connections of
learners, good learning devices are needed, but in reality the devices made by
teachers are not in accordance with the 2013 curriculum reference and have not
facilitated the ability of mathematical connections of learners.
The purpose of this research was to produced learning tools in the form of
syllabus, lesson plans and LKPD based on problem based learning (PBL) have on
valid and practical to facilitate students' mathematical connection abilities. The
form of this research was research and development. The development model used
refers to the ADDIE model. The stages in the development of the ADDIE model
were Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluations. In the
Analysis stage, the researcher analyzes of needs, materials, and characteristics of
students. While at the Design stage, the researchers designed the learning tools
which have been developed, as like the syllabus, lesson plans and LKPD based
on the PBL model. At the Development stage, have done the product development
process was carried out in accordance with what has been designed and planned.
After the device was developed, the device was validated by 3 expert lecturers.
After being validated by the validator lecturer, then repaired according to the
advice of expert lecturers. At the Implementation stage, the device that has been
declared valid and has been revised according to the suggestions would be tested
on a small scale. The trial in this study was conducted to saw the practicality of
LKPD.Students have asked to fill out a response questionnaire that aims to assess
the LKPD was being developed. The researcher conducted an analysis of the
student response questionnaires in the small group trial and revised the LKPD
according to the student response questionnaire. The questionnaire used Guttman
xvi
scale which contains positive and negative statements.At the Evaluations stage,
final improvements were made in order to get a more perfect product by referring
to the data and findings obtained from the Development and Implementation
stages.
Based on the results of the validity data analysis, the average assessment
by the three validators of the developed syllabus is 3.3 with valid criteria; the
average assessment for the developed lesson plans is 3.35 with valid criteria; and
the average score for the developed LKPD is 3.31 with valid criteria. Thus the
learning device developed was declared valid and worthy to be tested. Based on
the results of practical data analysis for the readability aspect, it reached 91.01%
with a very practical category. This means that the LKPD could be understood by
students in terms of the problems given, command sentences in carried out
activities and practice questions. The response of students to the aspect of the
structure of the content obtained 89.76% with a very practical category. It means
that the LKPD could be done by students well.
This development research has produced learning tools in the form of
syllabus, lesson plans and LKPD based on the PBL model to facilitate the
mathematical connection abilities of seventh grade students of SMP/MTs.
Learning tools were declared valid through the validation process and declared
practical through limited trials.
