Pengaruh Variasi Massa Adsorben Dan Konsentrasi Koh Terhadap Aktivasi Limbah Padat Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit Pada Proses Adsorpsi Ion Logam Cu2+
ABSTRACT
The adsorption process of artificial Cu 2+ solutions was investigated using an adsorbent made from Empty Fruit Bunches . TKS is one of the largest solid wastes produced from agricultural activities which contain lignocellulose. This research aims to study the effect of KOH variations and contact time of activation on iodine number, methylene blue and surface area of the TKS and to study the effect of mass variations of TKS physical activation and physical chemical activation on the adsorption process of Cu 2+ metal ions. In this study, the concentrations of KOH used were 2, 4 and 6 M with an activation time of 1, 3 and 5 hours. The results showed that the adsorbent with a concentration of 6 M and an activation time of 3 hour had the largest iodine number and surface area, namely 428.40 mg/g and 812,72 m2/g, and the number and surface area of methylene blue is 19.830 mg/g and 73521,96 m2/g / g. The best adsorption capacity on both physical and physical chemical activation adsorbents occurred at a mass of 2 grams, namely 3,882 mg/g and 3,032 mg/g and removal efficiency of 96,43 % and 81,93 % at a mass of 10 grams. The characterization used for physical activation and physical chemical activation adsorbents is a FT-IR spectrophotometer. FT-IR analysis showed that in the physical activation TKS and physical chemical activation TKS there was a shift in wave numbers and the breakdown of functional groups. This shift in wave numbers shows that the functional groups present in TKS affect the activation process of KOH.
