Lempung Maredan Sebagai Bahan Baku Pembuatan Zsm-5 Dengan Bantuan Templat Polietilen Glikol
SUMMARY
High content of SiO2 and Al2O3 in maredan clay originating from Siak Regency, Riau Province can be used as raw material in zeolite synthesis. This clay consists of the minerals kaolinite, illite and quartz. Zeolite is a hydrated aluminosilicate mineral that contains alkaline and alkaline earth metals. Zeolites can be used as catalysts and adsorbents. Zeolite is more widely used because it has a purer level of crystal purity with a more uniform particle size. In this research, ZSM-5 synthesis has been carried out with maredan clay as raw material and using the hydrothermal method. Maredan clay was calcined at 700oC for 6 h and followed by a leching process using 6 N and 8 N hydrochloric acid. Maredan clay after calcination and leaching with hydrochloric acid is used as precursors in the synthesis of ZSM-5 and coupled with PEG 400 template. The synthesis was carried out at molar composition ratio of 1 SiO2: 0.0067 Al2O3: 0.174 NaOH: 8 H2O: 0.07 PEG with variations in hydrothermal time of 12 and 24 h at a temperature of 140oC. The synthesized zeolite was characterization using XRD and FTIR. The results showed that the synthesis ZSM-5 had a crystallinity of 5.54% and contained analcim, mordenite and quartz. The results of the adsorption with pyridine showed the Lewis acid and Bronsted acid sites with a surface acidity level of the synthesized ZSM-5 surface was 0.9898 mmol/g.
