Sintesis Dan Karakterisasi Zeolit Dari Lempung Alam: Pengaruh Waktu Aging Dan Suhu Kristalisasi Zeolit
SUMMARY
Potential of natural clay in Maredan Village, Siak Regency, Riau Province is quite high, but this natural clay has not been optimally utilized. Maredan natural clay has a high content of silica and alumina, so that it can be used as a raw material in zeolite synthesis. During zeolite synthetic process, aging time and crystallization temperature are determining factors. The effect of aging time and crystallization temperature of zeolites on properties of zeolites have been studied. Before being used for zeolite synthesis, Maredan clay was activated using H2SO4 1 M by reflux at 80o C for 3 hours and calcined at 650oC for 3 hours. Post- The calcined clay were aged at 80ºC using 5 M NaOH with stirring speed of 300 rpm for 3 hours, then followed by process of zeolite synthesis by using reflux method at variations of temperature (80, 90 and 100°C) for 8 hours. Synthesized zeolite was characterized using XRF, XRD, FTIR and SEM. XRF analysis results showed that Si / Al ratio of synthetic zeolite between 1.75-2.06 which corresponds to the Si / Al ratio of sodalite zeolite. XRD data also supports formation of sodalite with purity percentages ranging from 31.12%-51% and crystal sizes bet ween 17.30-32.30 nm. The formation of the sodalite framework based on FTIR was indicated by presence of external vibrations from double rings D4R or D6R of sodalite at wave numbers 500-650 cm-1. The results of SEM characterization showed that synthesized zeolite morphology was in the form of petaled round crystals, as typical morphology of sodalite zeolite. This research shows that increasing aging time and crystallization temperature of zeolite causes purity of sodalite to be higher.
