Pengaruh Massa Adsorben Buah Jabon Putih (Anthocephalus Cadamba) Terhadap Efisiensi Adsorpsi Ion Merkuri (Ii)
SUMMARY
White Jabon fruit (Anthocephalus cadamba) can be used as an adsorbent because of its chemical compositions such as cellulose and lignin, which are the basic ingredients in making activated charcoal. The aim of this study was to determine the characterization of activated charcoal and to determine the optimum mass of activated charcoal to the adsorption of Hg2+ ions. In the first stage, the characterization of activated charcoal based on SNI 06-3730-1995 includes water content, ash content, adsorption capacity of methylene blue and adsorption of iodine. To find out further characteristics, functional group analysis was carried out using FTIR and analysis of the surface morphology of charcoal using SEM. In the second stage, the adsorbent mass was optimized for the adsorption of Hg2+ ions with variations (0.25; 0.5; 0.75 and 1 g). The results showed that the water content value of 1,298%, ash content of 2,595%, adsorption of iodine 829,494 mg.g-1 had met the quality requirements of activated charcoal according to SNI 06-3730-1995. The optimum adsorbent mass occurred at 0,75 g with an adsorption efficiency of 99,46%. Based on the results of the statistical test, it shows sig 0,163 (> 0,05) that there is no correlation between the adsorbent mass variable and the adsorption efficiency to the adsorption of Hg2+ ions.
