Pengolahan Air Gambut Pasca Koagulasi Menggunakan Adsorben Arang Cangkang Biji Karet (Hevea Brasiliensis): Pengaruh Konsentrasi Aktivator Zncl2 Dan Dosis Adsorben
SUMMARY
Rubber seed shells (Hevea brasiliensis) are one part of the rubber seed that is not
widely used, so it only becomes waste in rubber-producing areas. Rubber seed
shells have chemical composition of cellulose, lignin, and pentosan as a carbon
source, which potentially to be used as charcoal which functions as an adsorbent.
This research aims to convert rubber seed shells into charcoal through a
carbonization process and activated with ZnCl2, then applied for post-coagulation
peat water treatment. Carbonization was carried out at 500oC for 15 minutes and
activated with various concentrations of ZnCl2 (5; 10; 15%). Then, the best
concentration of rubber seed shell activated charcoal (ACBK) was contacted with
post-coagulation peat water with various dosages (1; 1.5; 2%). The resulting
ACBK was characterized by determined the moisture content and ash content
gravimetrically, iodine adsorption capacity, functional groups using FTIR, surface
area, pore diameter, and total pore volume using SAA, as well as surface
morphology and elemental composition using SEM-EDX. The post-coagulationadsorption
peat water parameters analyzed were odor, color, turbidity, pH, organic
matter, TDS, TSS, and ion. The best adsorption result was carried out by ACBK
5% at a dose of 1,5% that be able to remove odors and reduce 95.97% color,
84.44% turbidity, 56.14% organic matter, 99.88% TDS, 81.97% TSS, and
increased pH from 2.89 to 6.5. Based on the results of post-adsorption peat water
treatment, only the parameters of organic substances have not met PERMENKES
RI No.32 of 2017 about Environmental Health Quality Standards and Water
Health Requirements for Sanitation Hygiene Purposes and PP No.82 of 2001
about Water Quality Management and Water Pollution Control. The conclusion of
this research was that used of activated charcoal with ZnCl2 is quite effective in
improving the quality of post-coagulation peat water.
