Afinitas Lebah Kelulut Tetrigona Apicalis Terhadap Bunga Kelapa Menurut Polen Yang Dikumpulkan Dalam Lingkungan Budidaya Kelapa
Coconut is one of the economic plants that is widely cultivated by people in
Indonesia. It’s thought that the maintenance of stingless bee colonies in coconut
cultivations can increase fruit production through pollination services. This
research was conducted in Tanjung Sari Village, Meranti Islands Regency, Riau
Province. The results of the observation of the condition of the coconut
cultivations which is the environment for maintaining the colony show that the
average density of coconut and areca trees is 89 trees/ha and 24 trees/ha, with the
average proportions of coconut trees and flowering areca trees reaching 54.2%
and 32.5%. Observations were made of 20 colonies of stingless bees for five
consecutive days in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Examination of the
pollen brought by worker bees back to the hive revealed that the frequency of
presence of coconut pollen in the pollen baskets at the leg of worker bees reached
an average of 97.3%, while there was no presence of areca nut at all, but the
presence of pollen from other plant types was 52% on average. The consistency of
the presence of coconut pollen reaches an average of 97%, while the consistency
of the presence of pollen from various other plant species is only 50% on average.
The high frequency and consistency of the presence of coconut pollen provide a
strong indication that the stingless bees raised in community coconut cultivations
play an important role in the process of pollinating the flowers of this economic
plant.
