data sources are examined or examined for the authenticity of the sources, both in form and content (Verification), and then the stage of interpretation of historical facts, then found (Interpretation) from all historical facts sorted by the time when they occurred, followed by historical writing (Historiography). The purpose of this study was to find out what was behind the arrival of the Chinese ethnic community to Siak, to find out how the economic activities of the ethnic Chinese community were conducted during the New Order era in Siak Sri Indrapura, and to find out how ethnic Chinese traders in Siak Sri Indrapura adapted to the situation policies enacted by the government during the New Order era. The results of this research indicate that the economic activities of the Chinese community that happened in Siak Sri Indrapura during the New Order era were already running smoothly, as the Chinese ethnic community at that time could only do business in trade, distributors and other businesses such as crosswalks, and carriers, etc. Even though there was a lot of discrimination against the people in different regions of Indonesia during the New Order era, that’s never
happened to the Chinese community in Siak, they were able to live side by
side with the indigenous community, without any registration of riots. This is
because since the arrival of the Chinese community in Siak, until the
independence of Indonesia and the era of the New Order, the interaction
between the natives and the Chinese community has gone quite well, and it
can be said that there is a symbiosis of it. Mutualism has been because they
need each other, and the last is Indigenous perception of Chinese ethnicity in
Siak Sri Indrapura shows that the existence of Chinese have different
perception from indigenous. Even tough Chinese have a good interaction with
local’s community, but sometimes when they communicate with fellow tribes,
they use Chinese language, so this is make uncomfortable to local’s
community. but this thing doesn’t make a big problem. As long as Chinese
ethnic can appreciate and respect each other especially to Indigenous at Siak
Sri Indrapura.
