This study discusses about the genre Literature in tradition of erecting house in Desa Setako Raya Kecamatan Peranap Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu. The purpose of this research is to describe the genre of literature in the tradition of erecting houses in Desa Setako Raya Kecamatan Peranap Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu with a focus on the process before the house is built, when the house is built and after the house is built. This research method uses qualitative methods. Data sources that are the object of research are shamans and craftsmen during the construction of houses in Desa Setako Raya with a total of 4 respondents. The data referred to in this study is a series of literary traditions and genres contained in the upright tradition of the house obtained by interviews with informants. Data analysis technique is done by using ethnographic research methods where the data that has been collected is then clarified according to the needs of researchers, then analyzed based on context. , this means that the erection of the house for the Malays is accompanied by prayer as the community's hope for a better life in the future and the blessings and traditions in erecting the house must pay attention to taboos in Desa Setako Raya Kecamatan Peranap Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu.
