The 21st century generation is faced with technological advances in the digital world. According to the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 22 of 2016, on the standard of the learning process it is necessary to use technology, information and communication in the form of learning media to deliver subject matter. Meanwhile, technological advances do not rule out the possibility of deviant actions being carried out by students who violate norms and have negative characteristics. This is a challenge for educators to apply digital media by instilling character values in learning media, so that they are more relevant to the lives of students. Digital comics are media that can visualize real life, the use of digital comics as learning media can help implement more contextual learning materials. In addition, digital comics fulfill visual media elements from attentional, affective, cognitive and compensatory functions. These four functions have been owned by digital comic media, so digital comics are very appropriate to be used in the human respiratory system material. Thus, it is hoped that digital comics can increase students' understanding of the respiratory system material and make digital comics as an educational tool for students by instilling character values such as religious values, honesty, independence, curiosity, national spirit, social care, environmental care. , responsible and creative. According to the survey results, 75% of digital comic media have never been used in schools. Meanwhile, 25% are still limited to printed comics. The development of printed comics into digital comics provides convenience in the learning process. The research was carried out on the campus of the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Riau University and at SMA Negeri Plus Riau Province. The implementation time of development research is March 2021 - October 2021. The type of research is development which refers to the R&D research approach using the ADDIE model. The subjects of this study were KD 3.7 and 4.7 regarding the respiratory system material for class XI SMA.
The research procedure starts from curriculum analysis, syllabus analysis,
concept analysis and student analysis. The design and development phase of
digital comic learning tools based on character values was continued. After
producing a digital comic based on character values in its entirety, validation is
carried out by the validator to see the validity of the development of digital
comics. Next, a phase I trial was conducted to determine student responses to the
digital comics that had been developed and a phase II trial was also conducted on
students of SMA Negeri Plus Riau Province to determine student responses to
digital comics that had been developed. The instruments used to collect data are
validation sheets and questionnaires. The validation sheet and questionnaire
consist of 6 aspects, namely the software aspect, the comic content aspect, the
presentation aspect, the linguistic/communication aspect, the overall display
aspect and the character value aspect. Research data were collected by filling out
validation sheets and test questionnaires. Validators and respondents provide input
and suggestions to improve the digital comics that have been developed.
Based on the results of data analysis, the average digital comic validation
result based on the six aspects is 3.83 with a very valid category. The six aspects
include the software aspect with an average of 3.69, the comic content aspect with
an average of 3.81, the language/communication aspect with an average of 3.75,
the presentation aspect with an average of 3.76, the overall display aspect with an
average of 4 and the value aspect. characters with an average of 4. The aspect of
obtaining the highest score is the overall appearance aspect and the character
value with an average score of 4 categories is very valid. The results of the first
phase of the trial of the three digital comics at KD 3.7 and 4.7 on respiratory
system materials, the average overall score was 3.6 very good categories. In the
limited trial phase II of the three digital comics, an average score of 3.58 was
obtained in the very good category. It is concluded that digital comics based on
character values on the human respiratory system material for class XI high
school students have been successfully developed and obtained a very valid
category and can be implemented on a wide scale.
