Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Riau University
(UNRI), especially the Biology Education Study Program has implemented
Environmental Science and Disaster Mitigation course which aims to provide
insight and understanding to students so that they are more familiar with the
environment and are responsive to problems that arise. In realizing these goals, of
course, requires appropriate teaching materials and learning approaches. The
results of interviews and analysis of the teaching materials available in the
Environmental Science and Disaster Mitigation courses indicate that there is a
need for teaching materials in the form of student worksheets with a specific
learning approach for practicum/observation activities in the field, one of which
is the SETS (Science Environment Technology and Society) approach. . Riau
University has the potential of ecosystems and environmental issues that are
worthy of being used as objects of learning. Therefore, the development of
teaching materials in the form of student worksheets using the SETS approach
was carried out.
This study aims to: (1) determine the validity of the SETS approach-based
Student Worksheet (LKM) in the Environmental Sciences and Disaster Mitigation
course on ecosystems and environmental issues (2) determine student responses to
the results of the SETS approach-based MFI development. This research is a
development research using the ADDIE Model which consists of thestages
Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. However, in this
study, it was only up to the implementation stage of a limited test. Data was
collected through: (1) field observations, (2) interviews and distributing
questionnaires on the validity of the LKM to validators, (3) distributing student
response questionnaires to the results of developing the LKM. Data analysis was
carried out descriptively.
The research results obtained are as follows: (1) the validation value of
the SETS approach-based MFI development in the Environmental Science and
Disaster Mitigation course from the dedactic requirements obtains a validation
value of 3.67, from the construction requirements it obtains a value of 3.33, and
from the technical score of 3.29, with an overall average of 3.44. (2) Student
responses to the results of developing LKM based on the SETS approach for the
graphic aspect got a score of 80.75, in terms of material presentation, language
assessment and usefulness each received a score of 81.5. With the overall mean of
the student response assessment is 81.31.

Based on the results of the study, the following conclusions were obtained
(1) the development of Student Worksheets (LKM) based on the SETS approach
on ecosystem materials and environmental problems was classified as very valid
(2) Student perceptions of the results of developing Student Worksheets (LKM)
based on the SETS approach on ecosystem materials and environmental problems
are classified as very good. Based on the results of this study, student worksheets
based on the SETS approach can be used as an alternative as teaching materials
in Environmental Science and Disaster Mitigation courses at the Faculty of
Teacher Training and Education, Riau University.
