Prevalensi Prehipertensi Dan Hipertensi Pada Mahasiswa Baru Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Riau
Hypertension is a major cause of cardiovascular disease that often found at younger age lately.
This study aims to determine the prevalence and risk factors of prehypertension and
hypertension among first-year students in medical faculty of Riau University. The type of this
research is descriptive analytic with a crosss sectional approach. The sampling technique is a
total sampling technique with a total sample of 127 people. The colecting data technique is by
measuring weight, height, blood pressure, and filling out an e-questionnaire. The results showed
that the prevalence of prehypertension was 23 people (18,1%) and hypertension was 15 people
(11,8%), the relationship between sex (p value = 0.000, OR = 10,641), family history (p value =
1.000), index body mass (p value = 0.000, OR = 9,176), physical activity (p value = 1.000),
smoking habits (p value = 1.000), alcohol consumption (p value = 0.223), stress level (p value =
1.000), sleep patterns (p value = 0.861) with hypertension among first-year students in medical
faculty of Riau University.
