Analisa Kinerja Power Splitter Pada Sistem Radio Over Fiber (Rof) Menggunakan Teknik Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (Qam)
ABSTRACT
The development of the telecommunications sector is currently very rapid due to
the increasing needs of the community that requires fast telecommunications
technology with wide coverage. Then a technology called Radio Over Fiber
(ROF) was formed which combines the two technologies and becomes one of the
right solutions for the high demand for high-speed communication so that it can
cover a large area with large bandwidth. So far, the ROF system has been carried
out conventionally, where the information signal is transmitted directly through
an optical fiber. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to design a model of a
ROF system on a WLAN network with a QAM modulation technique (8-QAM, 16-
QAM, 64-QAM) made using Optisystem 7.0 software. This ROF system consists of
two scenarios. The first scenario is to vary the transmission distance from 10 – 50
km in the ROF circuit with the QAM modulation technique. It aims to determine
the best transmission distance that can be reached by the system with each QAM
modulation technique. The second scenario is to iterate over the number of
different splitter channels to determine the achievable performance of the system.
Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA), Bit Error Rate (BER), Q-Factor, and Eye
Diagram are considered parameters in the performance of this system. The
standard determination on the BER parameter is ≤10-9 and Q-Factor ≥6. The 8-
QAM modulation technique has better performance than other QAM modulation
techniques, the maximum distance that can be reached is 50 km with BER =
1.68091 x 10-12 and Q-Factor = 6.92231 on a 1:2 splitter channel. Then on the
1:4 channel splitter for the 8-QAM modulation technique good performance can
be reached at a transmission distance of 30 km with a value of BER = 2.42197 x
10-10 and Q-Factor = 6.18182. When the results have reached the standard, then
the designed system has been operating properly.
