A challenge in sanitation development is the problem of the behavior of the
population who practice open defecation free. The behavior of open defecation free
is often found in rural areas and locations of residence near water areas. Open
defecation free is caused by several factors, among others, the first factor is the
predisposing factor consisting of age, poor knowledge, having a negative attitude
in defecating behavior, having a habit of defecating in the river because the
residence is close to the river flow and has a perception that defecating in the river
does not cause harm to oneself. The second factor is the healthy latrine facilities
and infrastructure, some elementary school children who do not have latrines and
no running water is available at home. The third factor, namely reinforcing factors,
the role of health workers, parents and teachers in implementing good and healthy
defecation behavior has not been achieved. The purpose of this study was to
determine the correlation between knowledge and attitudes towards the practice of
defecating in the 001 Buluh Cina Primary School. Data collection using a
questionnaire to determine the knowledge, attitudes and practice of defecating in
the subject. The design of this research is correlational analytic with cross sectional
method. The research subjects were 85 people who had met the inclusion and
exclusion criteria. The results of the study were analyzed using the Spearman rho
test, showing that there was no significant correlation between knowledge of open
defecation free, had a very weak relationship strength and 1.1% of knowledge had
an effect on the practice of open defecation free (r=0,082 p-value=0,457
R2=0,011). The attitude towards open defecation free there is no significant
correlation, it has a very weak strength relationship and 2.1% attitude affects the
practice of open defecation free (r=0,172 p-value=0,114 R2=0,021)
