Karakteristik Arang Aktif Cangkang Biji Pala Yang Diaktivasi Secara Kimia Menggunakan H3po4
Nutmeg seed shells have the potential to be used as raw materials in the manufacture of activated charcoal. This study aimed to determined the characteristic of activated charcoal nutmeg seed shells activated with H3PO4. This research was conducted experimentally with five treatments and three replications. The treatments in this study were duration of activation, namely L1 (24 hours), L2 (26 hours), L3 (28 hours), L4 (30 hours), and L5 (32 hours). The data obtained were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance and continued with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the 5% level. The result of this research showed that the duration of activation has a real effect on water content, ash content, vapor content, bound carbon content, and iodine absorption in activated charcoal produced, but had no real effect on the yield produced by activated charcoal. L3 had treatment water content of 12.18%, ash content of 3.57%, vapor content of 15.17%, bound carbon content of 69.08% and iodine absorption of 781.74 mg/g.
