Uji Kemampuan Hand Sanitizer Dari Limbah Kulit Nanas Dan Ekstrak Serai Wangi Terhadap Staphylococcus Aureus Dan Escherichia Coli
ABSTRACT
Pineapple peel extract and citronella contain active compounds that have antibacterial properties that can inhibit or kill Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in hand sanitizers. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of hand sanitizer from pineapple peel and citronella extracts against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The research was carried out experiment using a completely randomized design method consisting of five treatments and three replicates with the percentage of pineapple peel extract and citronella extract respectively (0% and 100%), (25% and 75%), (50% and 50%), (75% and 25%), and (100% and 0%). The data obtained were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA), then analyzed with duncan's multiple range test (DMRT) at 5% level. The variance results showed that the percentage of the pineapple peel extract and citronella extract had a significant effect on pH, viscosity, antibacterial activity and irritation. The best treatment in this study was treatment with a ratio of pineapple peel extract and citronella extract (50% and 50%) with pH 3.70, viscosity 282.90 cP, antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus 16.00 mm and on Escherichia coli 8.60 mm, and does not irritate the skin.
