ABSTRACT
The manufacture of ship propellers is one of the important aspects in the shipping industry. because it functions as the main propulsion of the ship in the water. The efficiency and durability of the propeller greatly affect the overall performance of the ship. Therefore, the selection of the right materials and manufacturing processes is a key factor. The methodology consists of several design concepts that are carried out, including the following: data collection, design concepts, preparation of tools and materials, manufacturing process. Aluminum is chosen because it has lightweight properties and thermal conductivity, is easy to cast and easy to find, the price is relatively cheap compared to bronze, steel. melting at a temperature of around 660 ° C to 750 ° C, a used oil-fueled casting furnace, melting time 30-45 minutes, The mold is made using yellow soil with a rectangular pattern with wood length width 201mm x 201mm, thickness 20 mm. Molten aluminum is poured into the mold, cooling for 1-2 hours. The propeller has a 3-leaf shape with a resulting weight of 0.100 kg. The surface results are quite good, although there are still slight irregularities in some parts of the blade edges, the 2nd mold The cast structure is quite sturdy, no large cracks or significant porosity are found. This process has proven effective on a small and medium production scale. Aluminum is suitable for use as the main material for ship propellers, because it has sufficient mechanical strength and good corrosion resistance, especially in seawater environments. The efficiency of the production process can be increased through the use of simple metal casting technology that is easy to apply by small and medium industry players (SMEs). The production time is relatively short and the operating costs are low, making this method suitable for a limited scale.
