Pengawetan Terentang (Campnosperma Auriculatum) Menggunakan Bahan Pengawet Alami Ekstrak Kulit Ekaliptus (Eucalyptus Pellita)
ABSTRACT
Terentang (Campnosperma auriculatum), a fast-growing species with
potential as raw material for industrial and construction purposes, faces limitations
due to its low natural durability (resistance class V) and susceptibility to
subterranean termite (Coptotermes curvignathus) attacks, leading to significant
economic losses. While synthetic wood preservatives are constrained by high costs
and environmental concerns, natural alternatives such as eucalyptus bark extract
(Eucalyptus pellita), which contains termite-resistant compounds (flavonoids,
tannins, and triterpenoids), offer an eco-friendly solution. This study evaluated the
effect of eucalyptus bark extract concentrations on terentang wood durability. A
non-factorial completely randomized design (CRD) with four extract
concentrations (6%, 8%, 10%, and 12%) and 10 replicates was employed. Wood
samples were immersed for 72 hours, and parameters observed included
preservative retention, mass loss of wood samples, and subterranean termite
mortality. Results showed retention values ranged from 3.61 g/cm³ to 6.20 g/cm³.
However, the treatments did not significantly enhance wood durability, as
evidenced by no significant differences (p > 0.05) in mass loss (4.61%–10.59%)
and termite mortality, which reached 100% across all treatments.
