Komunikasi Pemberdayaan Penyandang Disabilitas Melalui Programpelatihan Vokasional Di Sekolah Luar Biasa (Slb) Putrakami Batam
Empowerment communication is an increase in community welfare by encouraging economic progress and improving the quality of human resources. Difficulties faced by people with disabilities to get a job. Through vocational programs designed to increase independence and skills. This research aims to analyze the empowerment communication process and analyze the supporting inhibiting factors in empowering persons with disabilities through vocational training programs at SLB Putrakami Batam.
This research uses qualitative descriptive method. And data collection in the field through observation, interviews, and documentation. Research informants as many as 9 people were determined using purposive technique. Consisting of 1 principal and 1 vocational teacher of SLB Putrakami Batam, 4 students who attended vocational classes at SLB Putrakami and 2 parents of students whose children were in the vocational class of SLB Putrakami. With data analysis of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. In addition, data validity checks by increasing observer persistence and triangulation.
The results showed that the communication process in empowering persons with disabilities at SLB Putrakami Batam was carried out through multimedia vocational training which refers to the Merdeka Curriculum and is tailored to the needs of students. The teacher acts as the main communicator who not only conveys material, but also becomes a motivator who builds students' confidence. The messages conveyed are informative, persuasive, and coercive, and are delivered through hands-on practice to facilitate understanding. Communicants are students with disabilities with diverse characteristics and levels of understanding, so communication methods are adjusted accordingly. The effect of this process can be seen from the increase in students' skills and confidence in the multimedia field, although there are still students who need a more intensive approach. Factors inhibiting communication include different levels of understanding, verbal barriers, and limited facilities and supporting tools. The supporting factors include teacher competence, the use of digital media and interactive methods, school and parent support, and the flexibility of communication applied. Overall, this empowerment communication process has a positive impact on the development of skills and independence of students with disabilities.
