To be a leader in a democratic country, he is definitely elected by the people and all his actions or decisions always receive attention from the public. By displaying populist and modest characteristics, leaders can easily maintain or increase their electability in society. One of the leaders who has a populist and modest nature can be found in a leader who currently serves as mayor in Dumai, namely H. Paisal, Skm., Mars. We can see this populist and down-to-earth nature from his closeness to the community. The aim of this research is to analyze the self- image and public opinion of Dumai Mayor Paisal.
This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The subject of this research is the people of Dumai City with the criteria of traditional leaders, government officials, entrepreneurs and workers. while the object of research is Public Opinion and Self-Image of Deputy Mayor Dumai Paisal. Data collection was carried out by interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques use the Miles and Huberman model, namely data presentation, data reduction, data verification, and drawing conclusions. Data validity checking techniques use data triangulation and extended observations. This research uses the Public Opinion Model.
The results of this study show that the opinion of the Dumai city community regarding the viral video of the Dumai mayor on TikTok social media received a positive response from the community, where the community said that what was in the video was indeed like the original that the Dumai mayor had a humble nature and was also always friendly to the community. They also think that during the mayor's leadership, he was very good at carrying out his duties and also brought many changes to Dumai City.
