Pemanfaatan Ekstrak Daun Pepaya Sebagai Bahan Pengawet Kayu Sengon (Paraserianthes Falcataria) Terhadap Serangan Rayap Tanah
ABSTRACT
Sengon wood is one of the fast-growing wood species that is widely utilized.
However, it has low natural durability and is susceptible to termite attacks. This
study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of papaya leaf extract as a natural wood
preservative against termite attacks on sengon wood and to determine the optimal
concentration for enhancing its durability. The experiment was conducted using a
nonfactorial Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three extract concentration
treatments (10%, 15%, and 20%) and five replications. Observed parameters
included moisture content, preservative retention, termite mortality, weight loss,
and degree of wood damage. The results demonstrated that increasing the
concentration of papaya leaf extract significantly improved the effectiveness of
wood preservation. The treatment with a 20% concentration produced the best
results, with a retention value of 0.068 g/cm³, termite mortality of 98.40%, weight
loss of 3.19%, and damage degree of 2.25%, which is classified as highly resistant
based on SNI 7207:2014. Therefore, papaya leaf extract has been proven to be an
effective and environmentally friendly natural preservative for enhancing the
durability of sengon wood against termite attacks.
