the correlation between listening to song and vocabulary mastery of english study program students
This research aims to find out whether or not there is a significant correlation between listening to song and vocabulary mastery among fourth-semester students of the English Study Program at Riau University. This research adopts a quantitative approach with a correlational design, The population in this research consisted of 118 students in the fourth-semester English study program at Riau University. The samples in this research were 30 students from class A. In data collection, the researcher used questionnaire to assess the frequency and habit of listening to song and used multiple-choice test to measure the students’ vocabulary mastery. The researcher used coefficient correlation of spearman’s rank through SPSS 22.0 Program. The result of this research showed that the significance value is 0.007, which is less than 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between listening to song and vocabulary mastery. The correlation coefficient of 0.481 indicates a moderate correlation, which means the correlation is positive and fairly strong.
