Strategi Komunikasi Lingkungan Dalam Konservasi Hutan Mangrove Berbasis Partisipasi Kelompok Masyarakat (Studi Pada Pt. Emp Malacca Strait S.A)

Mangrove forest conservation program conducted by the company PT. EMP Malacca Strait S.A, preserving mangrove forests by strengthening community group participation. This study aims to determine how the environmental communication strategy carried out by the company PT. EMP Malacca Strait S.A in the mangrove forest conservation program by involving the community groups.
This study used a qualitative-descriptive research method with the subject of 8 informants selected by using purposive techniques. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques comprised three forms: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. To validate the data, the researcher used the technique of extending the researcher’s participation and triangulation.
The results showed that the environmental communication strategy carried out by the EMP Malacca Strait S.A company through several stages: first, the assessment stage included; Identify problems with an economic-environmental approach and determine communication objectives, to increase knowledge and raise public awareness about the function and role of mangrove forests for life by socialization, counseling and environmental education. Second, the planning stage comprised; selection of the right communicator by prioritizing experience and communication skills, motivating and mobilizing the community through program assistance and assisting community groups. Finally, the media selection was by paying attention to the message content and the media types used in delivering socialization and environmental education materials. Third, the implementation stages included; the parties involved in the conservation program by empowering existing groups in the community, the design of messages to be conveyed includes messages that are Informative, Educative, Persuasive and Coercive. In spreading messages through the media by looking at media resources that exist and were often used by the community. The implementation of the mangrove forest conservation program was under the predetermined plan: counseling, training for nurseries and planting mangrove seedlings in abrasion areas and program assistance with active participation of community groups. The program documentation was in the form of activity clippings and reports to related departments and ministries. Furthermore, the activities evaluation was carried out in the form of internal and
external evaluation program.
