This research was conducted in Langgam District, Pelalawan Regency, with the aim of finding out the social values of society towards same-ethnic marriages and to find out the negative impacts of inter-ethnic marriages resulting in prohibitions. In determining the research subjects, criteria were used, namely couples who married within their ethnic group and people who understood the prohibition on inter-ethnic marriages. This research uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques through interviews and documentation. The number of research subjects was 7 people. The theory used is social systems theory by Niklas Luhman. Social systems emphasize communication as a central element in social interaction. Society is a complex communication network, where individuals provide information and meaning to each other through symbols in the form of prohibitions that society has violated. The results of this research are that there is a ban on marriage between ethnic groups which is useful for the people in Langgam District, where couples who marry within their ethnic groups have a big impact on their lives which occurs because of the oath of their ancestors. Couples who marry within their ethnic groups have difficulties in terms of the economy and offspring and other impacts are not considered in society and do not have a role in any activities.
