This research aims to identify the characteristics of the oil palm farmers, analyzing media literacy skill level of farmers and extension officers of the oil palm, identifying media extension of Palm, analyze the effectiveness of media extension of the oil palm. Research was conducted in Tambusai Utara district Rokan Hulu regency. This research uses Likerts Summated Rating Scale (LSRS) method. The results of this research are: First, the internal characteristics of the oil palm viewed in terns of age is a potential as productive labour, the level of education the majority of farmers tasting high school education, the number of dependents family farmers belongs to medium, farmer experience level quite experience, land area owned by the farmers include a category wide and cosmopolity include to high categories. The external characteristics of the oil palm growers including high category. Second, the level of media literacy ability of Palm farmers are on a level of basic media literacy abilities and levels of extension officers are at the advanced level. Third, the media outreach used consists of printed media and audio visual media. Fourth, the effectiveness of the media outreach by using printed media are in the category of medium and audio visual media in category of high.
