Pengaruh pemberian ubi jalar ungu kukus terhadap tekanan darah pada penderita hipertensi primer
Abstract
Patients obedience to drug therapy has been demonstrated as a successful medical treatment. Side effects and the cost of medication make patients did not adhere to treatment. To overcome this problem, a non-pharmacological treatment is used as an optional. The main objective of this study is to examine the effect of sweet potatoes on blood pressure of primary hypertension sufferers. It has been proved that this plant has rich anthocyanin which has a positive effect to decrease blood pressure and improve the role of Nitric Oxide (NO) on endothelial function. This research was conducted on 45 peoples aged 45-64 years who were divided into two groups: 15 participants as the control group and 30 participants as experimental group. During 14 consecutive days, as much as 4 grams of steamed sweet potatoes was given to the experimental group. Also, sphygmomanometers digital was used before and after intervention to measure the patient’s blood pressure. The results indicate a significant decrease on blood pressure mean after treatment on experimental group. Through t-dependent test, p value of systole = 0.000 and p value of diastole = 0.000 were both smaller than the alpha value (p < 0.05). The researcher can conclude that sweet potatoes are effectively lowering blood pressure. It is hoped that sweet potatoes consumption as non-pharmacological treatment can be promoted more to hypertension patients.
