Science education is a process of understanding science that discusses the field of science. In the material of temperature, heat and expansion, the use of teaching aids becomes a learning medium that can help students achieve learning objectives. The use of teaching aids as a learning medium is still very rare. Teachers usually only use learning media in the form of books and whiteboards. The use of inappropriate learning media in the material of temperature, heat and expansion affects students' understanding of the material which results in low student learning outcomes. To improve student learning outcomes, teachers can use teaching aids in the form of implementing a cooperative learning model assisted byPhET Simulation.
The purpose of this study is to describe and determine the cognitive learning outcomes of students in classes that use conventional learning without implementing a cooperative learning model.PhET Simulation with classes that use the assisted cooperative learning modelPhET Simulation on the material of temperature, heat and expansion at SMPN 8 Pekanbaru.
This research was conducted in class VII of SMPN 8 Pekanbaru in the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The time of this research started from August 2024 to January 2025. The type of research used in this research is descriptive research.as if they were experimenting or quasi-experiment. The sample of this study was students of class VII of SMPN 8 Pekanbaru consisting of two classes, namely class VII 2 consisting of 40 people and class VII 4 consisting of 37 people. So, the total sample of the study was 77 people. The data collection method in this study was giving students cognitive ability tests in the form of questionsmultiple choice. The instrument used to collect data in this study was a cognitive learning outcome test for students on the material of temperature, heat and expansion. Where this cognitive learning outcome test consists of 15 multiple choice questions covering the cognitive domain starting from C1 up to C5. Students are given post-test questions at the end of

learning the material on temperature, heat and expansion after the cooperative learning model is applied.PhET Simulation. After the final test was conducted, the research data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis.
Implementation of assisted cooperative learning modelPhET Simulation in the experimental class, showed an increase in cognitive learning outcomes. This can be seen from the increase in the average value in the experimental class. For the average value of the experimental class of 79.86 is in the good category, while for the control class it has an average value of 65.95 with a fairly good category. Based on the average cognitive learning outcomes of students in the experimental class who apply the cooperative learning model assistedphet simulation higher than classes without implementing the cooperative learning model assistedphet simulation.
Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of the cooperative learning model assisted by PhET Simulation on the material of temperature, heat and expansion of class VII SMPN 8 Pekanbaru can improve students' cognitive learning outcomes. The researcher suggests to educators that in order to achieve good learning, educators can apply the cooperative learning model assisted by PhET Simulation on the material of temperature, heat and expansion of class VII SMPN 8 Pekanbaru.phet simulation to improve the cognitive learning outcomes of students in science learning, especially the material on temperature, heat and expansion. The researcher realizes that the abilities they have are very limited, so it is recommended to other researchers to continue further research on the application of the cooperative learning model assisted byPhET Simulation for cognitive learning outcomes with different topics.
