ABSTRACT
Sago farmers in Meranti Islands Regency, especially in East Tebing Tinggi, are one of the areas with the most sago plantations, the minimal participation of farmers in extension activities is caused by the lack of extension workers, the lack of effective interaction and education from extension workers, which results in low productivity and farmer behavior. This study aims to: 1) Analyze the role of agricultural extension workers that have been carried out by extension workers in sago farming activities in East Tebing Tinggi District, Meranti Islands Regency, 2) Analyze the behavior of sago farmers in East Tebing Tinggi District, Meranti Islands Regency, 3) Analyze the relationship between agricultural extension and the behavior of sago farmers in East Tebing Tinggi District, Meranti Islands Regency. This study was conducted using a survey method with a quantitative approach. Data were collected through questionnaires from 54 sago farmers selected by purposive sampling. Data analysis used the Likert Scale and Spearman Rank correlation. The results of the study showed that 1) Agricultural extension carried out by extension workers in Tebing Tinggi Timur District, Meranti Islands Regency was included in the category of "Less Role" with an average score of 2.52. 2) The behavior of sago farmers in Tebing Tinggi Timur District, Meranti Islands Regency was classified as "Quite Good" with an average score of 2.74. 3) The results of the Spearman Rank Correlation analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between agricultural extension which included extension, fasilitation, consultation, and monitoring and evaluation with the behavior of sago farmers.
