developing animated video for vocabulary learning: communication and the media
This research aimed to develop an animated learning video focusing on
vocabulary related to communications and media. The researcher employed the
Research and Development (R&D) method by applying the ADDIE model.
However, this research was limited only to the development stage. The subjects of
this research were 39 students from Class 4B, 2023 cohort, in the English
Education Department at Universitas Riau. The instruments used included a
student needs analysis questionnaire, validation sheets from experts, as well as a
students‟ evaluation questionnaire. The research findings showed that the average
expert evaluation results for animated videos on the topic of “communication”
were 81.41%, which was categorized as “moderately valid,” 82% on the topic of
“online communication,” which was categorized as “moderately valid,” and
84.44% for animated videos on the topic of “the media,” which was also
categorized as “moderately valid.” From the students‟ evaluation questionnaire,
the animated videos for the materials “communications,” “online
communication,” and “the media” received feasibility scores of 86.23%, 84.48%,
and 88%, respectively. These results showed that all three were feasible for use as
resources to help students learn language. Furthermore, it was shown that the
animated videos improved student comprehension and engagement, which
benefited learning.
