ABSTRACT
Linear Alkylbenzene (LAB) is an organic chemical compound in the form of a clear liquid (molecular formula C₆H₅CₙH₂ₙ₊₁, n=C9-C14) which acts as the main raw material in the production of detergents and cleaning products. This compound has the advantages of high biodegradability and better cleaning effectiveness than other surfactants, as well as characteristics that are more environmentally friendly, economical, and have minimal impact on waste treatment systems. In Indonesia, the demand for LAB continues to increase along with public awareness of hygiene. However, domestic production capacity is still very limited because there is only one LAB producer that meets national needs, while the remaining 65% depends on imports. The opportunity to develop the national LAB industry is wide open considering the abundant availability of paraffin raw materials from domestic oil refineries. The application of Detal process technology can be a strategic solution to optimize the use of local raw materials, increase domestic LAB production, and reduce dependence on imports.
PT PRILAB Petrochem, which is a LAB factory from paraffin with UOP/CEPSA technology that will be established in Mertasinga Village, North Cilacap, Cilacap Regency, Central Java in 2028 with a production capacity of 42,000 tons/year. The LAB production process includes four main stages, namely dehydrogenation of paraffin into olefins, hydrogenation of olefins into mono-olefins, alkylation with benzene, and product separation. In the final stage, LAB as the main product with low volatility is separated at the top, while HAB as a by-product is separated at the bottom with a purity of 99.8%. Provision of utility needs for the LAB factory in the form of a steam supply unit, a water supply unit, and an electricity supply unit. The equipment in the factory is equipped with safety instruments and process control instruments to ensure the production process runs smoothly.
The results of the economic analysis noted that the Total Capital Investment (TCI) obtained was Rp 2.132.148.457.091, Total Production Cost (TPC) was Rp 1.937.473.098.484, and Working Capital Investment (WCI) was Rp 319.822.268.564. From the profitability analysis, the Net Present Value (NPV) value was obtained at Rp 5.484.975.614.534 with an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 21.13%, Break Even Point (BEP) occurred at a production capacity of 44.01%, and a Payback Period (PBP) of 3.01 years. The results of the profitability analysis indicate that the LAB factory is feasible to be established and is a profitable investment.
