Executive Summary Perancangan Pabrik Styrene Dari Ethylbenzene Proses Lummus Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi (T-101)
ABSTRACT
The demand for Styrene in Indonesia is predicted to increase by 5.5% during the period from 2024 to 2031. The supply of styrene in Indonesia comes from various countries such as China, Canada, Thailand, and Japan. The increase in styrene demand from China's downstream industry is the main driver of rising styrene prices, with the highest demand for styrene dominated by the Asia-Pacific region, accounting for 52%. The estimated global demand for styrene in 2030 is 50 million tons per year. Styrene is produced through a cracking process from the raw material ethylbenzene. A plant is planned to be built in Gerem, Cilegon, Purwakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. Gerem was chosen to facilitate access to the supply of raw materials in the form of ethylbenzene sourced from PT. Chandra Asri Petrochemical, which is close to the plant location. Styrene has the potential to increase the existing global demand for styrene, and the styrene plant will be established with a production capacity of 47,000 tons per year. The production of styrene from ethylbenzene uses a dehydrogenation process at high temperatures and low pressure, which will break the ethylbenzene chain bonds with the help of the catalyst Fe2O3, and the Lummus process will be selected with a styrene conversion of 95%. The styrene product is separated using a distillation column (T-101). Unreacted ethylbenzene is recycled using a mixer (M-101) that will be fed back into the reactor (R-101 The results of the economic analysis recorded that the Total Capital Investment (TCI) obtained was Rp. 1,413,714,742,400, Total Production Cost (TPC) was Rp. 1,293,609,340,151 and Working Capital Investment (WCI) was Rp. 706,857,371,200. From the profitability analysis, the Net Present Value (NPV) value was obtained at Rp. 1,405,937,626,876 with an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 12.53%, Break Even Point (BEP) occurred at a production capacity of 22.70%, and a Payback Period (PBP) of 3.09 years. The results of the profitability analysis indicate that the Styrene plant is feasible to be established and is a profitable investment.
