Prarancangan Pabrik Asam Oksalat Proses Oksidasi Glukosa Dengan Desain Alat Utama Rotary Dryer (Rd-101)
ABSTRACT
Oxalic acid has various industrial applications, including textile dyeing, iron coating (rust prevention), electrolytes, cork bleaching, cobalt production, agrochemical raw materials, pharmaceuticals, and more. The establishment of an oxalic acid plant aims to meet domestic demand and enhance Indonesia's capability as an exporter. The production process involves glucose oxidation using molasses and nitric acid as the main raw materials. The batch reactor operates at 71 °C and 1 atm pressure, yielding 70% conversion to oxalic acid. Subsequently, separation and purification processes employ filter press, centrifuge, crystallizer, and rotary dryer to achieve 95% purity. The planned production schedule is 330 days per year, operating continuously for 24 hours/day in three 8-hour shifts. The plant's capacity is 18,000 tons/year, situated in Gresik, East Java. Glucose oxidation was selected for its cost-effectiveness, mild process conditions, and high product purity. Economic analysis indicates a Break Even Point (BEP) in the 5th year at 43% production, Shut Down Point (SDP) at 23%, Pay Back Period (PBP) of 3.097 years, Rate of Investment (ROI) at 23.191%, and Interest Rate of Return (IRR) at 22.69%. Considering process and economic analyses, the pre-design of the oxalic acid plant proves feasible and holds promising prospects.
