Struktur Vegetasi Mangrove Di Sungai Kembung Luar Dan Sungai Jangkang, Pulau Bengkalis, Provinsi Riau
The Kembung Luar and Jangkang rivers are the two largest on Bengkalis Island and have mangroves along their banks. This study aims to conduct an inventory of mangrove species richness, analyze mangrove vegetation structure, calculate diversity index values, and identify anthropogenic activities affecting the mangroves in the two rivers. Line transects and nested plots with purposive sampling were used as the methods. Three transects were placed in each river. Three plots were laid out on each transect. The recorded parameters were the number of mangrove species and individuals, as well as the circumference of each mangrove stem. The obtained data were used to calculate mangrove species richness, density, frequency, basal area, dominance, importance index (INP), and the Shannon- Wiener diversity index. Seven mangrove species were found in the Kembung Luar River: Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, B. parviflora, Excoecaria agallocha, Rhizophora apiculata, R. mucronata, Scyphiphora hydrophyllacea, and Xylocarpus granatum. In the Jangkang River, eight species were found: Avicennia marina, Ceriops tagal, Heritiera littoralis, Lumnitzera littorea, Rhizophora apiculata, Sonneratia caseolaris, S. ovata, and Xylocarpus granatum. In the Kembung Luar River, X. granatum had the highest importance value index for seedlings and trees, while B. parviflora had the highest index for saplings. In the Jangkang River, R. apiculata,
L. littorea, and X. granatum had the highest importance indices for seedlings, saplings, and trees, respectively. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index values in both rivers were low due to high ecological pressure. Examples of anthropogenic activities include converting mangroves into shrimp farms, harvesting mangrove wood for charcoal and building materials, and using mangroves as a raw material for panglongs.
