Desain Alkaline Electrolyzer Cells Dengan Naoh Sebagai Elektrolit Untuk Produksi Gas Hidrogen
ABSTRACT
Riau Province is the fourth-largest emitter of greenhouse gases in Indonesia (Ministry of Environment, 2023). To address this issue, fossil fuels are being replaced with hydrogen as an alternative energy source. Naturally occurring hydrogen can be derived from water, fossil fuels, and biomass. One method of hydrogen production is water electrolysis, which separates hydrogen and oxygen atoms by supplying electrical energy. In this study, stainless steel 317L electrodes and NaOH electrolyte were used. The highest hydrogen production rate was achieved at a current of 60 A and a NaOH concentration of 30%, resulting in 1 LPM (liters per minute) of hydrogen and 0.5 LPM of oxygen. The electrodes showed no signs of corrosion or deposits, indicating longer electrolyzer lifespan and more optimal gas output. The highest voltage efficiency was recorded at 71.80% with a current of 40 A and 20%wt NaOH, while the electrolyzer efficiency reached 48.52% under the same conditions.
