ABSTRACT
The quality of road construction is greatly influenced by proper design, particularly
in the selection of pavement types and the planning of pavement layer thickness.
One important aspect of this design is considering the service life or design life,
which is how long the pavement can withstand traffic loads. In pavement design, it
is very important to follow established guidelines and adapt to local conditions.
This study aims to analyze the design life in relation to pavement thickness design
using two methods: the empirical method based on AASHTO 1993 and the
mechanistic-empirical method assisted by the KENPAVE program, adapted to the
latest provisions in MDPJ 2024. The research location is at the CWR-04 Physical
Development Project within the University of Riau campus, specifically at the road
construction site at the intersection of Jl. UNRI and Jl. Naga Sakti, section CL-1.
The analysis process began with an assessment of the existing traffic load at the
research site. This load data was then used to calculate the design life of the
pavement using both methods. Based on the results of the design life calculations,
recommendations were made for the thickness of the pavement layers, considering
both technical and economic aspects, to ensure that the resulting design enhances
the pavement's ability to withstand loads during the expected service life. The
analysis results indicate that the study site falls under the low traffic category
(1.135.374
