The formulation of the problem in this study is how is the role of parents in
fostering a culture of literacy in early childhood in Bagan Timur Village, Bangko
District, Rokan Hilir Regency. This study aims to describe the role of parents in
fostering a culture of literacy in early childhood in Bagan Timur Village, Bangko
District, Rokan Hilir Regency. This study has 3 indicators, namely (1) Reading
Ability, (2) Reading Habits and Motivation, (3) Availability and access to reading.
After this research is conducted, it is expected to provide benefits. The
benefits of this research are divided into two, namely theoretical benefits and
practical benefits. The theoretical benefits of the results of this study are to increase
insight into the field of the Role of Parents in Cultivating a Culture of Literacy in
Early Childhood. While the practical benefits of the results of this study are
expected to provide benefits for researchers, parents, and further researchers.
This research is a descriptive research type using a qualitative approach.
This research was conducted in Bagan Timur Village, Bangko District, Rokan Hilir
Regency involving 3 (three) informants as sources. The data collection techniques
in this study are documentation, observation, and interviews. While the analysis
techniques in this study are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing
conclusions.
Based on the analysis and discussion, the research results obtained are: first,
reading ability, children show that children are at an early stage in reading where
someone begins to recognize letters, spell words and understand simple meanings.

Children learn to use picture books, alphabet posters, story books. This stage is
important for building basic reading skills.
Both habits and reading motivation, early childhood is greatly influenced by
the environment and parental support. Children who are often introduced to books
and read stories tend to develop a higher interest in reading. Parents play an
important role in creating a fun atmosphere when reading, such as using songs or
games, which can increase children's intrinsic motivation to read. Varied and
interesting types of reading also contribute to good reading habits.
Third, the availability and access to reading materials, the availability of
diverse and quality reading materials at home is very important to support children's
literacy development. Access to reading materials does not only include the number
of books available, but also the types of reading materials that suit the child's
interests. Parents who realize the importance of providing a variety of reading
sources, such as story books, posters, and educational materials, can help children
be more active in reading activities. In addition, the use of technology to access
reading materials is also an important factor in increasing children's interest in
reading.
This study confirms that the role of parents in fostering a culture of literacy
in early childhood is crucial. Through consistent support and the provision of a
conducive environment, parents can help children develop literacy skills that are
essential for their future. This illustrates that parental awareness and action are
essential to increasing literacy levels in society, especially in the younger
generation.
