ABSTRACT
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the School Safety Zone (ZoSS) in improving pedestrian safety at SDN 17 & 182 Pekanbaru and SDN 011 Desa Baru, Kampar Regency. The evaluation was carried out by analyzing vehicle speed, student escorts’ behavior, and pedestrian behavior. The methods used include field surveys, ZoSS facility inventory, and statistical analysis using the Z-test on vehicle speed data during school arrival and dismissal hours. The results show that the presence of ZoSS has not significantly reduced vehicle speeds, as most vehicles still exceed the designated speed limit, particularly during peak hours. However, the behavior of student escorts at both locations was relatively orderly, with students being dropped off directly within the school area. The study concludes that ZoSS facilities need to be improved through the enhancement of road markings, traffic signs, and signaling devices, as well as through community education and awareness programs for road users.
