Executive Summary Rancangan Pabrik Dimethyl Terephthalate Teknologi Dynamit-Nobel Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Dimetil Tereftalat (T-102)
ABSTRACT
The design of a dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) plant with a capacity of 40,000 tons/year to meet the raw material needs of the polymer industry in the production of polyethylene terephthalate, which is still imported. The location of the plant was chosen Karanganyar Village, Jenu District, Tuban Regency, East Java Province based on the need for paraxylene raw materials, water sources, transportation, and product marketing. The DMT plant that was established can improve the economy of the country and the area where the plant was established, becoming the first DMT producer in Indonesia and export opportunities that are still wide open to the global market.
The establishment of a DMT plant based on dynamit-nobel technology involves oxidation and esterification reactions of paraxylene and methanol, which is more environmentally friendly than the previous process of terephthalic acid esterification. The dynamit-nobel technology was selected as the process technology chosen to produce a commercial DMT product in the form of white crystals with a high purity of 99%. The factory waste generated in the form of liquid products from the rest of the process unit and domestic waste is treated based on Government Regulation Number 101 (PP No.101/2014). Water treatment needs can be fulfilled from the nearest water sources, namely kaliwatu and garotan rivers in Tuban Regency, East Java Province.
The management of the DMT Plant consists of 248 employees in the form of a limited liability company (PT) with a line and staff organization system. From the economic analysis, the Percent Rate of Investment is 22.72%, Pay Out Time is 1.766 years, Return of Investment is 52.21%, and Break Event Point is 50%. Therefore, based on the data from the profitability analysis, the DMT plant is feasible to be established in 2028 with relatively good prospects.
