Karakteristik Mortar Self-Healing Menggunakan Abu Cangkang Telur Dan Silica Fume Dengan Metode Perendaman Dalam Air
ABSTRACT
Cracks in mortar are inevitable during the construction service period, thereby
reducing the durability of the mortar. Self-healing methods are used to repair
cracks independently, either with natural or artificial additives or from
environmentally friendly waste. Additives or healing agents that can be used to aid
the self-healing mechanism include eggshell ash waste and silica fume. Eggshell
ash waste contains calcium oxide (CaO), while silica fume is reactive silica that
can help form additional calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H), thereby optimizing crack
reduction. This study examines the effect of the percentage of eggshell ash and silica
fume mixtures on the self-healing ability of mortar by immersion in water. Three
mixtures were used in this study, namely PCC-ES5SF10, PCC-ES10SF10, and
PCC-ES15SF10 against cement weight and control mortar. The tests conducted
included flow value, setting time, compressive strength, Strength Activity Index
(SAI), Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV), porosity, weight change, and visual
mortar. The test specimens were cured in water for 28 days, then tested before
immersion. The mortar was cracked using a compressive strength testing device
with a width of 0.1-0.3 mm, then the samples were tested at 7, 28, and 56 days. The
results showed lower flow values and faster setting times compared to the control
mortar. The PCC-ES5SF10 mixture produced the highest compressive strength,
SAI, and UPV values of 33.13 MPa, 113.47%, and 4341 m/s, respectively, as well
as the lowest porosity of 17.27% at 56 days. Meanwhile, the PCC-ES15SF10
mixture produced the largest weight change of 0.348% and the highest crack
closure of 100%. The results showed that the mixture of eggshell ash and silica
fume improved the self-healing ability of mortar compared to the control mortar.
