Pemanfaatan Limbah Plastik Polypropylene Dan Abu Sekam Padi Dalam Pembuatan Paving Block
ABSTRACT
Rice production in Riau Province in 2023 reached 205.97 thousand tons from 51.91
thousand hectares of land, generating a large amount of rice husk waste. When
burned completely, rice husks produce ash with pozzolanic properties, which has
the potential to be used as a substitute for cement in paving block production.
Plastic waste, especially the polypropylene type, is elastic and resistant to
degradation. One of the uses of plastic waste is as a substitute component in paving
block production. This study aims to compare the compressive strength of paving
blocks made with different polypropylene content variations of 10%, 20%, and 30%
by weight of sand, along with the addition of 10% rice husk ash by weight of cement.
This research is an experimental study using cube-shaped test specimens with
dimensions of 10 cm in length, 10 cm in width, and 6 cm in height. Each variation
included three samples. The ratio of cement to fine aggregate used in the paving
block mixture was 1:4, with a water-cement ratio (w/c) of 0.4 and compressive
strength testing was carried out at the age of 28 days. Based on the results of the
28-day compressive strength test, the compressive strength values obtained were
19.2 MPa, 24.2 MPa, 12.7 MPa, 2.9 MPa, and 2.7 MPa, respectively. Meanwhile,
the water absorption test results showed water absorption percentages of 5.6%,
5.3%, 16.2%, 22.1%, and 29.2%, respectively.
